Bezhin Meadow (1937) *****

Never finished and never released, all its prints destroyed, this could have been Sergei Eisenstein's masterpiece. All that was preserved were screenshots from all the scenes, allowing a complete reconstruction of the film as an edited flow of still images. And that reconstruction is a masterpiece in itself.
