Winterset (1936) **

Badly acted film with atrocious dialogue. But the story is riveting, and the sets worthy of a German Expressionist drama of the 1920's. Loosely inspired by the Sacco and Vanzetti saga, it's a Hollywood idea of a Communist film, but so ineptly executed that few of the people involved in it were ever bothered or persecuted during the McCarthy era.
